STROUP DOGG TIMES

Marty Supreme

January 3rd

Holy goat, let's give it up for Timothee Chalamet! He has earned every award he has gotten for this movie. Only weaker performance was Odessa Azion because she kept giving off more 2026 Los Angeles influencer instead of NYC, still a good performance. Who knew ping pong could be so crazy? Josh Safdie may have proved to be the better Safdie with this one. Let's go Academy Awards!

Project X

Was it a game changer? Yes. Is it anything crazy? No, I fear not. But hey, cannot hate the playa, got to hate the game. I love found footage. Dax Flame has kept up this persona for decades, at this point he is either a method actor or that is who he is. This movie is a relic of it's time and that is ok, but it is not getting a 5 from me.

The Smashing Machine

January 25th

A24 strikes again with a sports movie with a sad story. What's new? Ok, enough of being a negative nancy, the Rock was really not bad. He starred along side Emily Blunt to create a story of an obsessed artist. A biopic where the subject is still alive can always go one of two ways, and I think this went the right way. While boring at times, I think it was a good story to tell. It truly brought my attention to the world of MMA fighting. However, I do not think they did enough with the story given, it fell flat at times. This was made up for with the grade A makeup which is being represent at the Oscars! The shots, editing, and lighting kept drawing my attention in no matter how boring the dialogue was at times. Nice touch at the end bringing Mike Kerr in.
